Julie Hicks, M. Ed
2019-20 OLA President
Julie Hicks is a literacy professional proudly serving the Ohio Literacy Association and the International Literacy Association as the Teachers' Choices Award Leader since 2016. She has served on the ETS National Advisory Panel for Praxis Reading Specialist, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Literacy Standards Revision committee and Model Curriculum team for state of Ohio literacy standards. Julie is the 2015 ILA National Community Service award recipient for her project to reach cancer patients and published author in Reading Today "Helping Kids with Cancer." Julie has impacted her community by implementing a project "A Day Without Violence" to promote peace and anti-bullying.
Julie is an educator for Oregon City School and an honors graduate at the University of Toledo. Julie began her involvement with the International Literacy association as a member attending local council meetings regularly during her first years of teaching in Ohio. Within a few years, she was nominated as a local council officer, then president of her local council. Julie feels that her involvement with ILA has been a wonderfully rewarding experience as an Ohio educator who loves teaching children to read. Julie is proud to serve as the current OLA president.
